Reiki is a healing art of “laying on of the hands.” In Reiki, the practitioner/healer connects to the Divine Source, the creator of all life, and acts as a channel for the life force energy to be transferred to the recipient. The energy is healing and balancing. It supports and nourishes the body, mind and spirit. It encourages the body to re-balance, harmonize and heal on all levels.

The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word Rei which means Universal Life and Ki which means energy. This life force energy and it’s source are known by many different names throughout different cultures and religions of the world.  The Chinese call this energy Chi. The hippies called it LOVE. We all call it something different, but the words we choose are not so important. What matters most is to connect and experience this awesome, life-filled energy.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

What is a Reiki session like?

A Reiki session is held in a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space. This is your time. Since Reiki is a transfer of healing energy we do not need to be in the same physical location. We will meet via Skype. This allows you to enjoy your session in the comfort of your own home.

In the beginning of the session, we will have time to meet and greet and briefly discuss any questions or comments that you may have. When we are ready, the Reiki session will begin. It is best if you can lay down somewhere comfortable and quiet so you can fully relax. Most people choose to lay down on their couch or bed. If you cannot lay down, sitting in a chair will work too.

During this time it is fine to lay your phone or computer to the side, as I do not need to see you through Skype during the Reiki session. Healing occurs during our relaxed and sleeping states so I encourage silence during this time. We will still be connected through Skype and be able to communicate if needed.

As I begin to send you the Reiki energy, you may or may not feel it. Most people experience it as a warm feeling. Others feel nothing at all. All people who I have given Reiki to report that they feel so relaxed and peaceful. Many people fall asleep. This is a wonderful thing, as stated earlier, healing occurs when the body is deeply relaxed or sleeping.

When the session is over I will let you know. We will have time to follow up and discuss any questions or comments that you may have. If I don’t hear a response, I will suspect you fell asleep and I will sign out of Skype and let you continue to sleep! In these instances I will do an e-mail follow up for you.

How do you “channel” the energy in Reiki?

As a Reiki practitioner, I have received attunements from a Reiki Master. These attunements cleared and opened my connections/channels to the Divine Source. When I connect to the Divine Source with the intention to heal, I receive an abundant flow of the life force energy. When I lay my hands on someone/something, the energy is transferred from my hands to the recipient.

The energy is all-knowing and goes to the areas that need re-balancing and healing. I do not direct it, I simply act as a channel for the healing energy to flow through and be shared with those who ask me for it.

When you set clear intentions you are more likely to achieve your goals.

Also, make sure you have a quiet, comfortable place for you to relax in for your session. Most people choose their couch or bed.

What should I expect during and after a session?

During your session you may feel the energy as it flows through your body. Most people feel it as warmth. Other times it may feel cool or like a slight tingling sensation. Some people don’t notice any sensations at all.

Everyone I have given Reiki to says how relaxed or uplifted they feel after a session. People leave with a feeling of peace and serenity.

After a session, you will likely feel very relaxed. It may take you a few minutes to “come back to Earth” so please take your time getting up. Begin by bringing your attention back to the room you are in and wiggling your fingers and toes before getting up.

Many people fall asleep during Reiki or will feel like going to sleep after the session. Others may feel energized and ready to accomplish something. Everyone is unique and each session is too. The feelings after a session vary, but a good rule of thumb is to be gentle with yourself, drink pure water afterwards and do what you feel like doing.

How often should I schedule Reiki for myself?

In general, I recommend every 2 weeks. This is a good frequency for maintaining balance.

If you are experiencing a specific challenge and in need of more tlc, then sessions may be closer together, such as on a weekly basis or as often as you would like. You really can’t overdo Reiki!
